Myers, Fontenot enjoy festive couple’s shower

The pending May wedding of bride-elect Lauren Beth Myers of Estherwood and prospective groom Charles Brett Fontenot of Ville Platte was cause for celebration last weekend as family and friends of the bride-elect gathered to host a couple’s shower in honor of the betrothed pair.

The shower was held on the evening of Saturday, March 29, at the Estherwood home of Sylvia and Ernie Broussard, the bride-to-be’s great-aunt and -uncle.

The Broussard residence was decorated in a rustic theme reflective of life in the South and the Cajun culture.

Tables were topped with burlap cloths, and a pirogue floated lazily in the pool alongside a number of duck decoys. Old wooden fences served as backdrops to display photographs of the engaged couple.

The guests in attendance enjoyed a variety of finger foods before being served jambalaya, cracklins, black-eyed peas, coleslaw and homemade bread. The meal was rounded out with bread pudding for dessert.

A pirogue filled with beer kept guests refreshed.

Approximately 100 people attended the event, with out-of-town guests traveling from Florida, Texas and various points throughout Louisiana.

Special guests included the bride-elect’s parents, brother and sister-in-law.

Lauren and Charles will be wed on Friday, May 2, during a 7 p.m. ceremony officiated by Fr. Randy Moreau at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Estherwood.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Susan and Donnie Myers of Estherwood. Her maternal grandparents are the late Rodney and Eileen Eagan Hoffpauir of Gillis, and her paternal grandparents are the late Don L. “Jay” and Helen Sellers Myers of Estherwood.

The prospective groom is the son of Voncille and Charles Fontenot of Ville Platte. He is the grandson of Seraphin Joseph Guillotte and the late Ethelyne Mabel Fontenot Guillotte, and Eva Lou Fontenot and the late Irving Ben Fontenot, all of Ville Platte.

Following their wedding, Lauren and Charles will reside in Estherwood.
