CHS Ladies clinch 4-4A title with victory over Eunice
CROWLEY – The Crowley Ladies didn’t let their first league setback of the season rattle them.
After dropping a 4-0 loss to Rayne last week, the CHS Ladies took out their frustrations on Eunice Monday and in doing so, they claimed the outright District 4-4A title with a convincing 14-4 victory over the Lady Bobcats.
“Winning the district title was the first goal we set last year and we came up one game short; so it is kind of bittersweet this year,” said CHS coach Zach Pulling, whose squad improved to 16-13 on the season and finished league play at 11-1. “We didn’t have as good a season this year, record wise, but the girls played well tonight and did what I felt they should have done in the final district game.”
The Ladies had a field day at the plate against the Lady Bobcats. Five players logged multiple hits in the contest that was halted after the sixth inning due to the mercy rule.
“We put the ball in play well both games against Eunice this year,” said Pulling. “We have been one of those teams this year that we’re either on or we’re off. When we’re on at the plate, we tend to get quite a few hits, but, on the flip side, when we’re off, we’ve had the games where we get zero hits like the game against Rayne.”
The Ladies banged out 13 hits against Eunice, a far cry from the no-hitter that was thrown against them by Rayne last Thursday.
“From top to bottom, we were good yesterday and I expected that coming off that game where we were kind of shell-shocked and that girl (Rayne pitcher) threw a lights out game against us,” said Pulling. “The girls rebounded and I think they were excited about getting up there and kind of redeeming themselves from that previous game.”
Katelyn Killmer led the offensive charge with a 3-for-4 performance that included two doubles, a triple and three RBI. She also picked up the win in the circle after surrendering four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out two in six innings.
“Katelyn really helped herself out at the plate a whole lot today,” said Pulling. “She’s gotten better and better at the plate as the season progressed and she’s seeing the ball real well.
“And as far as her pitching performance, I think it was one of her better outings of the year just because every inning, when we were on the field, it was when it was raining; so she had to battle through that with a wet ball and she worked right through it.”
Kristen Bonin added two hits and two RBI while Maddie LeBouef logged two hits, including a double and an RBI. Bailee Villejoin had a single, a triple and one RBI; Skylor Huval singled and doubled and Taylor Grabowski and La’Shonda Delco each had a single.
