Finally.
Organizers of Greetings From Levy Park have seen two shows changed due to weather, so today’s projected sunny skies were a definite sight for sore eyes.
“We’re finally getting fantastic weather and will have fantastic music,” said Kyle Gordon, one of those organizers.
First it was cold, rainy projections that led to the rescheduling of New Orleans-based Flow Tribe until May 20.
Then it was The Lost Bayou Ramblers that were lost after predictions of a heavy downpour ended up dry.
But, as promised, GFLP will be presenting four shows, and it starts tonight with indie/folk singer/songwriter Sean Bruce.
Bruce hails from Lafayette, has two EPs under his belt and is sure to delight the GFLP-craving crowd.
“(Bruce’s) got a good following in Lafayette and those who didn’t know about him seem to be enjoying the things we’ve posted online,” said Gordon. “Every time he plays, it’s a big deal in this market.”
Bruce’s first EP, “Daytime Hopes,” was released in April 2011 and, for Gordon, it’s one of the best singer/songwriter ones he can remember hearing.
“My wife still has it in her car and plays it after all these years,” he said.
In November 2014, Bruce released his sophomore EP, “Staring at Maps, pt. 1,” which has also been met with adoration.
Gordon describes Bruce as the perfect blend of Louisiana/Cajun influences, folk music and singer/songwriter style. And, Bruce was actually an act discussed for the inaugural run of GFLP last year, but, it just didn’t work out.
This time, however, Bruce was able to make it on short notice after The Lost Bayou Ramblers couldn’t be rescheduled.
“We’re super bummed we lost (them), and they were bummed, too,” said Gordon.
The event will once again be fun for the whole family as many of last year’s aspects will be on hand – drinks, fun jumps and more.
The Crowley Art Association will be out there, as will the ACME Taco Food Truck (Lafayette), Gatti’s Pizza (Crowley) and more. And all that is just for the first show this season.
Bruce takes the stage at 6 p.m. and rolls until 8 p.m. Admission to the event is free, but food and drinks will be for sale, as will GFLP T-shirts and more.
“Hopefully everyone knows it’s happening tonight,” Gordon joked. “But, I think it’ll be a great time.”
