Charles L. “Dago” Redlich Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 11, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home for Charles L. “Dago” Redlich Jr., 91, who died Thursday, May 7, 2015, at 1:15 a.m. at Acadia General Hospital.
Fr. Mark Miley and Msgr. Paul Metrejean will con-celebrate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Sunday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. to service time. A rosary will be recited Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Redlich proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He was one of the nine crew members on PT Boat 149 which patrolled the waters of the South Pacific. In 1948 he opened Dago’s Record Shop which was a favorite hangout for teenagers listening to the latest records. During this time, he also recorded local swamp pop and Cajun musicians, he was the first manager of local singer/songwriter, Bobby Charles, who wrote and recorded “See You Later Alligator”. After the record shop business, he worked for the Acadia Parish Assessor’s Office as well as the Acadia Parish Clerk of Courts office, and until the time of his death, he was in the real estate business with Bobby John Realty and worked as a property appraiser. “Dago” was also proud to serve as a volunteer for many years with the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
“Dago” is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sadie Hanks Redlich of Crowley; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Leon Redlich Sr. and Emma Fruge Redlich; three sisters, Lillian R. Campbell, Ethel R. Leger and Julie R. Hargrave; and three brothers, William “Hoss” Redlich, Henry J. “Hank” Redlich Sr. and Johnny Redlich.
Pallbearers will be Willard Sterling Jr., Robert John Jr., Bryan Hanks, Steven Champney, Joey Redlich, and Donnie Redlich. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Campbell, Dale Campbell, Carl Hanks and Bobby John.
