Gussie Marie Richard

Rayne, LA - Funeral services for Gussie Marie Richard, 100, of Rayne will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel. Father Kendal Faulk will officiate. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery #2 Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 2:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in Gossen Funeral Home, with a rosary being recited at 6:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Sunday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home.

Ms. Richard passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 2:39 A.M. in a Rayne care facility.

A native of Rayne, Ms. Richard came from a very close-knit, Christian family. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and she lived out her faith as a member of Catholic Daughters of America.

Ms. Richard held a variety of jobs throughout her life, including as streetcar operator in New Orleans, welder, and clerical worker with Bell South. She was also active in the community as a member of Elderberries, Acadia Parish Home Demonstration, and Bell South Pioneers. In her younger days, Ms. Richard enjoyed quilting, baking, and was still actively crocheting throughout her life. Ms. Richard touched many, many people throughout her life, and was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Survivors include a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, all of whom dearly loved her and will miss her.

Preceding Ms. Richard in death were her parents, Simon Richard, Jr. and Elodie Credeur Richard; brothers, Eusebe Richard, Thomas Richard, Lawrence Richard, Lucien Richard, Sr., Dave Richard, and Wallace Richard; and sisters, Erisse Trahan, Colastie LeBlanc, and Lucia Baker.

Ms. Richard's family wishes to express their appreciation to Debbie Carriere, and the entire staff of Rayne Guest Home for the loving and compassionate care they gave to Ms. Richard.
