Maureen McKay Poche

Maureen McKay Poche died Aug. 22, 2015, at the age of 58. She died peacefully at home.
Beloved wife of Leon K. Poche Jr. for 35 years. Daughter of Donald McKay Sr. and Mary Alice McKay.
Maureen is survived by her son Kevin Poche and wife Rachel; and Maureen’s daughter Celeste Poche. Maureen was a proud grandmother (Nana) of Adair Poche; sister of Donald McKay Jr. (Indie), Megan McKay and Miliss Christman (John).
Maureen was a devoted wife, mother and volunteer. Her passions were her faith, family and friends.
Maureen received with her husband the Order of St. Louis medallion in recognition of their dedication and service to the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, she received the Distinguished Alumna Award from Ursuline Academy. Maureen and her husband were members of Legatus of New Orleans and the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. Maureen was active in many Catholic ministries, she with her husband prepared engaged couples for the sacrament of marriage, she was a spiritual director, she began many activities at Ursuline Academy including weekly rosary for parents and alumnae, monthly adoration of the blessed sacrament for students, parents and friends and was the first golf coach for Ursuline High School.
Maureen worked tirelessly in many ways for Pro-Life causes. Maureen’s most recent efforts were spent with her husband and others in the renovation of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor. Her dream was to increase devotion to Our Lady of Prompt Succor.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans. On Friday, Aug. 28, a visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The Funeral Mass will be at noon Friday, Aug. 28, at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, 2701 State St., New Orleans, with internment following at All Saints Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Maureen McKay Poche Mission Fund at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, mailing address 2734 Nashville Ave., New Orleans, La. 70115.
