Winnie Leger Coleman

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for Winnie Leger Coleman, 95, who died at 10:20 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, in Jennings.

Fr. Jude Thierry and Fr. David Broussard will be officiating for the services. The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Jennings.

Mrs. Winnie was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Pine Island, Louisiana, to the late Joseph and Lovella Cart Leger. She was a lifetime member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. She and her husband Howard founded Coleman Sausage in 1964. She was instrumental in building the company’s sales to what they are today.

She is survived by two sons, Lynn Dale Coleman and wife Ethel of Iota and Ned Dwight Coleman of Birmingham, Alabama; a daughter, Janie Reames and husband Phillips of Atlanta, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Tanna Pousson, Dana Steen, Molly Clayton, Mandy Walker, Nichola Kleyle, Eli Coleman and Lindsay Rodriguez; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Winnie is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lovella Leger; husband, Howard Coleman; two sons, Father Howard Wayne Coleman and Robbie Coleman; four brothers, Bob Leger, Clinton Leger, Dick Leger and Con Leger; and three sisters, Effie Brashier, Maye Smith and Venice Fisher.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Camelot Brookside for their love and compassionate care of Mrs. Coleman these last few years.
