Two men charged in Rayne burglaries

RAYNE - Two men have been formally charged in connection with yesterday’s burglaries on Hummingbird Road outside of Rayne.

A resident of one of the homes arrived home to find two male subjects stealing items from a shed located at the residence. Upon calling 911 Investigators with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office were in the immediate area and stopped the vehicle. Two male subjects fled on foot and were captured in Rayne.

Several items were located in the vehicle and do not belong to the homeowner. The sheriff's office is asking residents living near Coin Road, Lavergne Road and Hummingbird Road to check their residences as it feels that other burglaries may have been committed Wednesday by these subjects. Thanks to the quick thinking the homeowner, investigators and deputies with the sheriff’s office and the Rayne Police Department for assisting with the arrest.

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, Investigators have charged Joseph R. Duplechain, Jr, age 40, of E. Street, Rayne with four counts of simple burglary. His bond was set at $15,000 by District Judge Glenn Everett. Also charged was Jeremy S. Mouton, age 28, of Heritage Road, Rayne with three counts of simple burglary. His bond was also set at $15,000 by District Judge Glenn Everett.

Melancon stated that as the investigation continues more charges are expected.
