Dolores Nutt’s School of Dance presents their 2009 dance recital “An Evening of Rhythm and Dance”
The staff and students of Dolores L. Nutt School of Dance presented their Dance Recital on May 9, 2009 at the Historical Rice Theater.
The recital “An Evening of Rhythm and Dance”
was enjoyed by everyone in attendance. The talented students performed routines in tap, ballet, lyrical and jazz to music for all to remember.
The stage was beautifully decorated with a touch of elegance for an evening performance. Centering the back curtain was a silhouette of a sparkling dancer with a high kick into a giant black sequined top hat.
Above the top hat was silver holographic streamers flowing into the shape of a fan. On each side was large silhouettes of a male and a female dancer, also accented with silver holographic sparkling musical notes and border trim. Each picture was taking in by the spotlights and sending back a kaleidoscope of colors.
To begin the exciting evening, Mrs. Deborah Nutt Whiting, Mistress of Ceremony, welcomed everyone and introduced her mother, the owner and instructor of the dance school, Mrs. Dolores Nutt. Mr. Blaze Nepveux escorted Mrs. Nutt on stage to present awards to very deserving students. .
The Program first Place Award was presented to Megan Pellissier and Morgan Marceaux. Receiving the second Place Program Award was Macy Melancon.
Silver Medals for three years in dancing was presented to: Ashley Broussard, Kylie Broussard, Vivian Cradeur, Sydnie Dailey, Maddie Foster, Erin Hetzler, Claire Meyer, Blaze Nepveux, Alysa Pousson, Grace Simon and Bailey Sittig.
Receiving the 5th Year Trophy was Morgan Collins and Aurora Pousson
The 6th Year Gold Medal was presented to Megan Broussard, Lainie Conner, Katie Cormier, Shiela Graboski, Tisha Istre, Alexis LeBlanc and Ciara Lavergne.
Lauren Patton was the recipient of the 8th Year Trophy. Presenting Lauren with flowers was her father, Mr. Sam Patton. Receiving the 15 year award, a memorable plaque, was Mrs. Jennifer Meche. Mr. Donnie Meche, Jennifer’s husband, presented her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
“An Evening of Rhythm and Dance” began shortly after with the opening number, a rousing tap routine to the popular broadway swing tune “Sing, Sing, Sing” Performing was Shandy Comeaux, Lauren Patton, Morgan Collins, Marcelle Keyes, Victoria Thibodeaux, Lindsay Trahan, Taylor Guidry, Ashley Broussard, Katie Cormier, Blaze Nepveux, Brittany Domingue and Brianne Bellon. The young ladies were dressed in black basic with silver pin stripes, a cerise inset and a fringe skirt, accented with a cerise feathered headpiece, while the young man was dressed in a black pin striped vest, white shirt, black pants and a cerise scarf.
The dancers also performed a beautiful lyrical ballet to “Only Hope” with a stain glass prop in the background. A flowing short purple lyrical dress, sprinkled with tiny silver spotlight sequins was worn by the young ladies and a purple sleeveless shirt and white pants was worn by the young male dancer. Thexe talented dancers ended the show with a Jazz routine to: “Rhythm Nation.” The girls wore a black leather unitard with a lime sparkling bodice, black long sheer sleeves and black caps. Blaze was dressed in a black and lime shirt, black pants and a black cap.
The dancers ended their routine with lime green sticks, dancing and beating the sticks to the rhythm of the music.
“Do You Love Me”, a snappy jazz routine was performed by tiny little talented students and their special guest. Ella and Tim Cradeur, Madison and Jessie LeJeune, Megan and Thomas Pellissier, Tayler and Michael Prather, Natalie and Kevin Domingue, Anna and Dustin Broussard, received continues applause and cheers from the audience.
The young dancers were precious in a dress like costume of black and white polka dot, accented in lime ruffles and silver iridescent sequins. The special guest were dressed in black T-shirts with lime letters and lime sequins, each saying “ I Love.. and the child’s name”.
The precious little girls also preformed a tap routine to “Come up and See Me Sometimes” wearing red and black costumes, gloves and a sassy little hats, with a long black feather.
Later, the tiny dancers presented a ballet routine to “Lonesome Lil Butterfly” dressed like beautiful butterflies in white, and silver sequins, with butterfly wings trimmed in light pink and silver spot sequins. Each dancers fluttered their wings to a lovely flower.
Alexis Vincent, Morgan Granger, Ciara LaVergne, Aurora Pousson, Alexis LeBlanc, Kylie Broussard, Jessica Clayton and Alana Vincent were performed a beautiful lyrical ballet to “Not While I’m Around”. Their lovely costumes of light lavender and white, accented with sprinkles of iridescent sequins, sparkled with every move.
Changing the beat to a jazzy tune “Play My Music” and holding tiny radio’s, these dancers jazzed it up a little. They wore royal blue costumes also accented with silver iridescent sequins. “We Rock” was another exciting tap routine performed by the same dancers. Each girls was dressed in a lime green and black fringed costume.
One group, Michaels Jabusch, Eric Comeaux, Natalie Breaux, Megan Broussard, Victoria Richard and Tisha Istre entertained everyone by performing a tap routine in striking red costumes for the girls and a red sequined shirt and black pants for the young male dancer to “Pumpin up the Party.”
For their ballet routine “ You’ve Got a Friend in Me”, the young girls were dressed in lyrical costumes of light and dark jade chiffon. Silver spotlight sequins completed this beautiful creation. Eric wore a white satin shirt and pants with a dark jade cummerbund, also accented with the same spotlight sequins.
“I’ve Got What It Takes” was the tune they performed to for their jazz routine. They jazzed it up in flo-lime green and black knee-length unitards with a silver baseball hat worn to the side. Eric’s costume was a flo-lime green shirt with a black mesh pull over top and hood and black pants.
“Music Box Dancer” was an old tune in which ballerinas danced their way into the hearts of many, as they appeared in dainty pink and white tutu’s accented with silver sparkling sequins and a matching bodice of silver and pink swirls.
Morgan Marceaux, Vivian Cradeur, Taren Adams, Brook Foreman, Claire Meyer, Alexis Primeaux, Lainie Conner, Gabrielle Manuel, Erin Hetzler, Brianna Driskill, Caitlynn Falcon and Sophie Finley were the beautiful Music Box Ballerinas. The audience then enjoy the jazz routine these young dancers presented.
While performing to “Boogie Fever” wearing a deep periwinkle blue jazz ensemble, the jazz dancers had the audience moving, clapping and tapping their feet. Their tap routine to “Sugar Pie Honey” was indeed another exciting dance.
Dressed in Kelly green baby dot sequin tops and two tiered circular skirts accented with black feather pouf, one could say they were darling dancing dolls.
A jazzy group of young girls, Alysa Pousson, Sydnie Dailey, Lauren Stewart, Sophia Fontenot, Bailey Sittig, Leah Lowery, Grace Simon, Macy Melancon, Madisun Lacombe, Anya Cormier, Maddie Foster and Haleigh Doucet and one jazzy little fellow, Russell Adams, performing a jazz to “ABC” kept the audience cheering with each dance move.
The girls were stunning in orange and silver tops and silver shorts. While, Russell was sharp in a matching orange and silver shirt and white pants. Giant crayons in red, green, yellow and blue were used as their stage prop.
For their ballet dance, these precious young dancers performed to “Music Makes The World Go Round”.
The girls costume was a lily white tutu and bodice, accented with silver sequin braid and white marabou. Russell’s costume was a white satin shirt, white pants and a cummerbund of silver baby dot fabric. Adding to this beautiful ballet dance was a sequined world in the background and each dancer held a card with the name of a country or state. The audience enjoy reminiscing to a 50’s tune, “Twisting The Night Away”, especially when they performed in the perfect costume!
The girls wore flashy pink baby dot circular sequined skirts, with a black poodle, a white satin blouse like bodice, trimmed in black polka dot ruffles and of course, the young boy, Russell, dressed in a black vest, white t-shirt and black jeans. The audience cheered and applauded their every twisting move.
Nine little tap dancer with the cutest little baby faces, performed a crowd pleasing dance to “Baby Face”. Kiara Guidry, Navika I. Simon, Kaytlin Keller, Elan Meyer, Kyla G. Abshire, Hannah Abshire, Emma Broussard, Alidia Cormier and Hailey A. Boudreaux were darling in white and royal blue baby doll costumes with shinny silver sequins.
They then stole the hearts of everyone when they performed a ballet in light blue and silver sequined costumes to “A Child’s Ballet Prayer” with special ladies. Performing with Kiara was Katrina Guidry, with Navika was Pallavi Simon, with Kaytlin was Candace Lafleur, with Elan was Brandy Meyer, with Kyla was Natalie Abshire, with Hannah was Christie Miller, with Emma was Natasha Broussard, with Alidia was Betty Cormier and with Hailey was Caroline Boudreaux.
Of course, they later jazzed it up to “Boogie Woogie Bear” in bright orange costumes with full orange sequined tutu’s. With a furry orange bear face on the bodice, orange mitts and black sparkling bows, one would say, that was the cutest dancing bears they have ever seen!
The adult class, Timmy Gail Hart, Jennifer Meche, Robbie Simon, Mary Graboski and Shiela Graboski had the audience in a trance as they performed a “Riverdance” routine to “Siamsa”.
The ladies wore black leotards and black jazz pants accented with a peacock long sleeve baby dot sequined top, tied just above the waist. The gentleman, Robbie Simon, wore a black shirt, black pants and a peacock tie. “This House is Rockin” was indeed a rockin tune to perform a fast tap routine.
The ladies were costumed in black long sleeve leotards, bright pink circular skirts, accented in silver iridescent sequins and a bright pink feather boa at the neckline. Robbie, was dressed in black with a long bright pink scarf at the neckline. Their last routine was a classy Broadway jazz routine to “New York,
New York”.
Timmy, Jennifer, Mary and Shiela were elegant in black and silver sequined tuxedo jackets and black jazz pants. Robbie was also sharp in a black and silver sequined tuxedo jacket, black tuxedo pants and a black top hat. Adding that special New York touch, these very talented dancer used a black cane during their performance.
The entire cast and Mrs. Nutt presented a grand finale to “ Do Your Own Thing”, with each class dressed in different costumes and Mrs. Nutt in black jazz pants, a sparkling black top and long black ruffled sleeves, accented with silver sequins. The audience then gave the dancers a standing ovation with cheers.
Mr. Robbie Simon thanked the audience for their applause and cheers given to all the dancers and presented a bouquet of flowers to Mrs. Nutt. He then introduced Mrs. Jennifer Meche, who presented a gift to Mrs. Nutt from the adult class.
Blaze Nepveux called on the assistants, Lindsay Trahan and Victoria Thibodeaux to accept flowers from Eric Comeaux on behalf of the classes they help teach.
Robbie then presented a basket full of treasures from the students to Mrs. Nutt.
