Hamic family reunion held at First Baptist Church

The annual Hamic family reunion was held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church in Crowley.

This was the 58th reunion of the descendants of Thomas Jefferson Hamic and Josephine White Hamic. These reunions were started in 1952 by a group of cousins, who were the grandchildren of Thomas and Josephine. There has been a reunion each year since that time in Oklahoma, Texas or Louisiana.

Those attending the 2009 reunion are the descendants of James Claudius Hamic and Cynthia Rosa Lee Tutt Hamic who came to Acadia Parish from Kimball, Texas in 1902. They had five children when they came from Texas, and three more after they settled in Acadia Parish.

The family lived in the Morse, Lyons Point area until James Claudius died in 1909 and Cynthia Rosa Lee Hamic moved the family to their home in Estherwood where the eight children grew up.

The children of James and Cynthia were Vivian Hamic Hoffpauir, Causby Hamic, Sr., Edith Hamic Buckley Barousse, Rupert Hamic, Callie Hamic Hormell, John Hamic, Garland Hamic, Sr. and Claude Hamic. The eight children and their spouses are all deceased. Attendees at the 2009 reunion are descendants of either Causby Hamic, Sr. or Garland Hamic, Sr.

Representing the family of Causby Hamic, Sr. were: Causby Hamic, Jr. and Rhonda, Bryant and Stephen Hamic; Rosalie “Sis” Bienvenu and John Bienvenu, Donna and Rex Riordan; Mark, Justin, Brad and Brett Lux; Steve, Michael and Joey Lux; Rick, Mitchell and Phillipe Lux; Diane and Denver Lionberger and Katie, Michelle, Ryan and Abby Pulliam.

Representing the family of Garland Hamic, Sr. were: Claudia and Jerry Adams; Paul, Konnie, Kenny and Sarah Adams and Corey, Christian and Madison Needham; Judy, Monte, Adam and Ava Curran; Gerry and Jimmy Meche: Vicky, Matt and Kasi Cotton and Briley Brasher; Tammy Meche; Connie, Christian, Michael, Taylor, Will and Ben Doughty; Scott, Sarah, Davis and Mary Katherine Meche; Charlotte Spell; Cindy Edinger and Sarah, Jacob and Luke Tucker; Buddy and Nancy Hamic; Amy, Kevin, Spencer and Griffin Keith; and Jimmy and Ann Hamic.
