Attakapas Study Club enjoys ‘Postcards from the Past’ program

Members of the Attakapas Study Club gathered for their regular monthly meeting at the Egan home of Liz Regan.
After the Jan. 4 meeting was called to order by President Barbara Lengefeld, the Pledge of Allegiance and club collect were led by Joanna Pruitt. In the absence of Secretary Gerry Meche, Jo-Anne Arnaud called the roll and read the minutes of the last meeting. The treasurer’s report was given by Jackie Buescher.
After various committee reports, the group enjoyed looking at photographs from their Christmas party and recognized those members with January birthdays.
Upon adjournment of the business portion of the meeting, Regan presented a program entitled “Postcards from the Past” and exhibited a variety of old and antiques from her collection and that of Lengefeld. Regan spoke on the history of postcards, their value to collectors and their different sizes and types.
Program details came from “The Encyclopedia of Antique Postcards” by Susan Brown Nickolson, a copy of which was presented to the Acadia Parish Library last year.
Afterwards, the members and their special guests, Ann Mire, June Hupp and Pat Andrepont, enjoyed a variety of refreshments prepared by the hostesses.
In addition to those already mentioned, members on hand for the meeting included Erma Breaux, Jackie Buescher, Bettie Rae Duhon, Shirley Griffin, Jean Oubre, Dot Simon, Ethel Thibodeaux and Roy Lynn Trahan.
