Marie “Sis” Hensgens Heinen

EUNICE – A wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Marie “Sis” C. Heinen will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Marie died peacefully on Friday, October 1, 2010 at Oaklane Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Eunice surrounded by her loved ones. She was 97. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 4, 2010 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Rite of committal will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery with Father Cedric Sonnier Celebrant and Reverend Monsignor Robert Romero, Concelebrant.

Mrs. Marie was born on February 8, 1913 in Mowata. She was one of nine children born to William Nicholas Hensgens and Agnes Leonards Hensgens of Roberts Cove. She will be lovingly remembered by her family as a lady of kindness and inner strength. Mrs. Marie’s children, family, friends, and faith were her life. Those of us who have been blessed to have known her, loved her, laughed with her and cried with her will cherish every moment of everyday of every year that God has allowed us to share with her. We are grateful and blessed for the gift she will forever be to us. She was a Pink Lady for over 16 years at the hospital. She enjoyed cooking and Crawfish Bisque was her favorite dish to prepare. Maw Maw Heinen devoted her life to the service of caring for others. Her unselfishness and caring personality exemplified the quality of servant that she was and loved bringing joy to her friends and family as she always saw the good in people.

She is survived by her three sons, Lowell Heinen, Sr. of Lumberton, TX, Dr. Brian Heinen and wife, Jennifer of Eunice, Leo Ferdinand Heinen, Jr and wife, Lori of Eunice; her two daughters, Gwen Stewart and husband, James of Atlanta, GA, Janet Martel and husband, Donald of Eunice; two sisters, Louise H. Foley of Houston and Yvonne Istre of Oklahoma City, OK. She is also mourned by her 24 grandchildren of whom she was very proud of; Leslie Carney and husband, Tom, Laurie Flanagan and husband, Mike, Catey McCartey and husband, Gary, Caroline Heinen, Lowell Heinen, Jr. and wife, Mariann, Susan Robinson and husband, Dale, Sarah Kelly and husband, Brian, Mary Heinen, Brian Heinen, Jr. and wife, Dianne, Dr. Chad Heinen and wife, Kelly, Dr. Monty Heinen and wife, Tiffany, Dr. Jade Heinen and wife, Emily, Anne-Christian Heinen, Dr. Nicholas Heinen and wife, Ann, Hans Heinen and fiancé, Cadi , Missy Dubois and husband, Chris, Shannon Martel and wife, Candase, Brad Martel and fiancé, Tanna, Scott Martel, Rhett Harris and wife, Beth, Sarah Heinen, Stuart Heinen, and her 47 great-grandchildren who were a great source of joy and five great-great grandchildren. The impact she made on her family and friends will last forever along with her favorite saying, “Fine as Wine!” when asked how she was feeling.

She now rests in Heaven with her beloved, husband, Leo Heinen, Sr., parents, Nicholas and Agnes Leonards Hensgens; daughter- in- law, Catharine Davis Heinen; step-mother, Lillian Miguez Hensgens; brothers, Charles, Hensgens, Sr. and Nicholas Hensgens; sisters, Josephine LeBlanc, Regina Duplechain, Helen Boudreaux, Annie Hundley, and Christine Chisholm.

At the request of the Heinen family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Sunday, October 3 from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Monday, October 4 from 8 a.m. until time of services. Deacon David Guillory will recite a Rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday evening.

The family would like to express great appreciation for the love, care, and thoughtfulness given to their mother during her stay at Oaklane Wellness and Rehabilitation Center, Acadiana Mercy Hospital and Dr. Stearns.
