Sheriff’s Office arrests 2 for simple burglary

Following an investigation by the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, two men have been arrested charged with four counts of simple burglary.

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon on Wednesday afternoon deputies in the patrol division stopped two male subjects riding four wheelers. 

Following a brief investigation it was learned that the four wheelers had been reported stolen earlier in the day from residents in the Evangeline area. Warrants were issued for the arrest of Tyler Louviere, 19, of the Evangeline Highway in Basile and Austin Thomas, 18, of St. Jules Road in Iota.

Both Louviere and Thomas remain in the Acadia Parish Jail with bond set at $50,000 each.

The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office was assisted in the investigation by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division.

Melancon stated that his office was in the process of investigating four burglaries that occurred in the Evangeline area and had been reported to his office between the dates of Oct. 16 through Oct. 29. Items taken in those burglaries were three, four wheelers, hunting equipment and power tools. Two of the four wheelers have been recovered and as the investigation continues Detectives are hoping to recover additional items for the victims.
