If two history lessons weren’t enough, the Rotary Club of Crowley headed back to high school Tuesday to see how things have changed for prep football.

Long gone are the days of 8 mm film for coaches to spend hours poring over. Enter technology that almost every school in the country is utilizing, Hudl.com. Though, that may not always be ideal.

“It’s no longer going drive, eat breakfast together and exchange film,” said Notre Dame defensive coordinator James McCleary. “That’s the bad part, the breakfast was fun.”

At Notre Dame, the school is using all the bells and whistles of the multifaceted tool – in game footage, practice film, message sending, playbooks and more for the coaches with students having the capability not only to view footage and receive messages from the coaches, but create highlight videos and use Hudl for recruiting.

N.D. head coach Lewis Cook and McCleary showed off how the school uses the website’s tools. The school will also be signing onto Hudl’s new feature that will allow video to be almost instantly reviewable on the sidelines for the players and coaches.

“The game is all about adjustments,” said McCleary, adding that the staff feels like it is a tool they cannot afford not to have.

Cook explained that Hudl also has been a great tool for officials as it has provided them the chance to review game footage and hone their skills as well.

Hudl is now being offered to sports outside of football, i.e. volleyball, basketball, baseball and more.
