Kickoff Rally set for Monday, Nov. 18

To be held at Fezzo’s at 6 p.m.

On Nov. 18 at 6 p.m., the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Acadia Parish will officially get underway as event volunteers and participants gather at Fezzo’s in Crowley for a kickoff rally to launch their fundraising efforts this year.

The rally will feature information about the 2014 event and will be an opportunity for those involved, as well as new interested parties, to learn how the American Cancer Society benefits the community thanks to events like Relay For Life. This also will be the first opportunity to register a team for the 2014 event, set for May 10, 2014, at Crowley High School’s track.

Through extra community support, Relay For Life of Acadia Parish met its fundraising goal in 2013. In 2014, the bar has been raised by the Planning Committee, and it will not only need the community’s support financially, but also the community’s energy, enthusiasm and ideas.

Relay For Life of Acadia Parish 2014 is looking to be the best yet with a theme that is sure to delight all participants. The theme will also be announced Monday night at the Kickoff Rally.

Anyone interested in learning more about Relay For Life, any cancer survivors or caregivers and anyone interested in starting a team should visit the Kickoff Rally to learn more.

The world’s largest grassroots fundraising movement, Relay For Life, mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and provide participants with an opportunity to fight back against the disease. Relay brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, faith-based groups, people from all walks of life – all aimed at furthering the American Cancer Society’s vision of creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

Relay For Life began in 1985 with one man who walked and ran around a track for 24 hours and raised $27,000 for the American Cancer Society. This year, Relay For Life will take place in nearly 5,100 communities in the United States and 20 other countries and will raise funds to support the Society’s mission of saving lives by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back.
