First water shuttle held in Chataignier

Members of Ward One, Fire District Two completed its first water shuttle in Chataignier for the fire rating commissioner Tuesday evening, April 8. The last time the rating commissioner visited Evangeline Parish, he recommended the department conduct a shuttle in Chataignier since it was conducting a shuttle in the north end of the parish already. Firefighters went to work on the idea and both water shuttles were completed successfully. The first shuttle was held Tuesday, April 1, at the Industrial Park, and the second shuttle was held in Chataignier. District Fire Chief Ted Demoruelle said everything went well. Also appearing at the shuttle in Chataignier were trucks from Eunice, Mamou, Richard and St. Landry’s District Six (Savoy/Swords) as per the department’s mutual aid agreements with these communities. The district should receive word from the rating commissioner in approximately three months to see if the district maintains its rating. Homeowners insurance costs are affected by the district’s fire rating.
