Attakapas Study Club enjoys trip, plans for coming club year

The Attakapas study Club of Crowley met on May 14 at the Lake Arthur camp of Joanna Pruitt.

Thirteen members and two guests were present. Members attending were  Ella Bertrand, Erma Breaux, Bettie Duhon, Jerrie Fontenot, Shirley Griffin, Barbara Lengefeld, Gerry Meche, Jean Oubre, Joanna Pruitt, Liz Regan, Jeri Stevenson, Ethel Thibodeaux and Roy Lynn Trahan. The guests were Wynona Grand, sister of Liz Regan, and Nancy Conner, cousin of Barbara Lengefeld.  

Roy Lynn Trahan, president, called the meeting to order and asked Parliamentarian Joanna Pruitt to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and club collect.

After the two guests were welcomed, Gerry Meche, secretary, called the roll and read the minutes of the April meeting. Due to the absence of the treasurer, Jackie Buescher, President Trahan gave the treasurer’s report for the year.

Committee reports were given and Pruitt, chairman of the nominating committee, presided over the installation of officers for the new club year.  Two new officers – Barbara Lengefeld, president and Elizabeth Regan, vice president – were installed. The current secretary, treasurer and parliamentarian will continue to serve and had previously been installed.

Trahan called for the new president, Lengefeld, to preside over the rest of the meeting. After old and new business was discussed, the meeting was again turned over to Trahan, chairman of the program committee, to discuss ideas for the 2014-15 club year. The members presented ideas for programs and a schedule was tentatively set. Members volunteered to host meetings in their homes and to provide refreshments. The calendar will be completed at the executive committee planning meeting, which will be held at the home of Ethel Thibodeaux on June 18.

After the meeting was adjourned, those present enjoyed picnicking with their bag lunches and visiting with one another. Thanks were given to Pruitt for making her camp available and to Oubre and Fontenot for providing desserts.
