UPDATE: Identities, more information released in train-truck collision

ESTHERWOOD--The driver and passenger involved in a deadly train accident in Estherwood have been identified.

Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon says the driver, 24-year-old Derrick Mouton tried crossing the tracks at the intersection of Old Spanish Trail and Hwy 90 near Estherwood. His pickup truck didn't make it across and collided with a BNSF train. Mouton, of Morse, is in stable condition at a Lafayette hospital. Passenger, 20-year-old Katelan Chenna Foster of Scott died in the accident.

The BNSF train was traveling from Beaumont, Texas en route to Lafayette and was testing tracks when it collided with the pickup truck.

Charges are pending as the investigation continues.

The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office, along with many other agencies, responded to a train wreck that claimed one life just outside of Estherwood this afternoon.

A small passenger truck was hit by a train and at least one is dead.

One other person was injured and aws transported to a Lafayette hospital via AirMed.

The accident occurred at the railroad crossing just outside of Estherwood going toward Midland.

Acadian Ambulance, Estherwood Fire and Police departments, and other agencies responded to the accident.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
